When the 2018 Grammy nominations were revealed Tuesday morning (Nov. 28), people on social media immediately began debating who got snubbed, who deserved which honor and how the nominations stack up against previous years. Among the welcome surprises this time around was Cardi B, who was nominated for both best rap performance and best rap song for her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, "Bodak Yellow."
But as many began poring over the minutiae and dissecting every small detail of who was nominated for what, searching for hidden nuggets of information that others may have missed, some pointed out that in the credits for best rap song -- an award that honors songwriters -- Cardi's real name, Belcalis Almanzar, was not listed. This was pointed out in a (since-deleted) tweet by The Fader, which noted that if "Bodak Yellow" won best rap song, Cardi would not.
That began to gain traction on Twitter, with some claiming that Cardi used a ghostwriter for the song, and others noting that Kodak Black (real name: Dieuson Octave) is listed as a songwriter on the credits. (Cardi named "Bodak Yellow" after Kodak, as an homage to the flow he uses on his song "No Flockin.")
This is not the case, however. A rep for the Grammys told Billboard that Cardi iscredited as a songwriter, just under a different name: Washpoppin. The name doubles as the title of her song "Wash Poppin" from her 2016 mixtape Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1.
