Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo is set to star in his
very own reality special, but some want to see the program nixed before
it even airs. That’s because the show, titled All My Babies’ Mamas,
focuses on Lo’s complicated, and controversial, family life, which
involves 11 children by 10 different women.The program, a one-hour
special, is set to air on the Oxygen network at an undetermined date.
But online opposition to the show has already begun. A petition has been started to pull the plug on the special.
The petition, started by a woman named Sabrina Lamb, has over 6,000
signatories so far who say they are prepared to boycott any company that
chooses to advertise with the program.
“As dysfunctional and violent as so-called reality shows are, could
you ever imagine a one hour spectacle where 11 children are forced to
witness their 10 unwed mothers clamor for financial support, emotional
attention and sexual reward from Shawty-Lo, the apathetic ‘father’?” it
begins. “With your voice…this ugliness will not see international
airwaves.”
Oxygen has so far not responded to the backlash. In an initial press
release promoting the special, Oxygen’s Senior Vice President of
Development said All My Babies’ Mamas’will be filled with
outrageous and authentic over-the-top moments that our young, diverse
female audience can tweet and gossip about.”
